Red List

Galapagos Graphics: IUCN Red List Categories

The IUCN Red List classifies species into one of nine groups dependent on a number of factors including rate of decline and geographic distribution.

The Red List has been created by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to measure the threat of extinction to a species. The Red List gives each species a rating from “Least Concern” to “Extinct” according to the level of risk to that species.
