Captain David Porter was a United States Navy officer who was sent to capture British whaling vessels in Galapagos. He captured three whaling vessels, the Montezuma, the Georgiana and the Policy. Captain Porter is also thought to be responsible for releasing four goats onto Santiago – the descendants of these goats quickly grew to outnumber indigenous species on the islands and were labelled an invasive species!
