A PIT (Passive Integrated Transporter) tag is a tag that allows scientists to track the movements animals, and identify individuals. They are generally cylindrical in shape and can be placed under the skin of an animal, and are dormant until activated so they do not need batteries. This means that the tags will not cause harm to the animal they are inserted into.
