Galapagos People: Charles Darwin

Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist (1809-1882) best known for his theory of ‘evolution by natural selection’. He visited the Galapagos islands in 1835 as part of the HMS Beagle voyage. Whilst in Galapagos he made observations that laid the foundations for his theory of evolution. Many species on the islands are named after him as well as the Darwin Island.
