Taxidermy is the process of cleaning,  preserving and filling the skins of dead animals with special materials to make them look like they are still alive in order to feature them in museums and other locations. Lonesome George underwent this process after he sadly passed away to preserve him as a icon for the world of the threats faced by species in Galapagos.
